WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The election of Donald Trump to a second term as president has jolted the immigrant community, spreading fear and anxiety about what lies ahead. As a first-generation immigrant and immigrant-rights attorney, I am on the front lines of this political reality.

In the days following the election, my office phone was flooded with calls from new and former clients. People are desperate for answers, clinging to any hope that their lives won’t be uprooted come January 2025. These calls highlight the harsh reality immigrants face, as they navigate a system that often feels stacked against them.
